Dad abandons newborn, promises to return after 2 yrs
An abandoned newborn girl and a handwritten note were found in a hotel room in Dewas. The note said that she would be taken back after two years.
In the note her name was given as Vaishnavi Joshi.
A paragraph reads: “Muje paida nahi karna chahiye jab mein paal nahi sakta. Lekin mein two years key baad wapas aoonga (I should not have sired the baby because I cannot rear her. But I will return after two years).”
The note also said the infant was not vaccinated.
The women’s police station took custody of the infant and rushed her to the district hospital. “She had some infection and jaundice when she was brought, but now she is stable,” Dr Mahima Sharma said.
Hotel employees told the police that two young persons had come to the hotel on April 29. One said his name was Abhishek Verma. They said they were from Bhopal and had an interview in Dewas-based Tata Export Company.
“They probably brought the baby in a bag they were carrying. They checked out of the hotel on April 30 at around 6 am, leaving the newborn behind,” Additional SP Tilak Singh said.

Twins lose mother, abandoned by dad
Within days of being born, a pair of twins at Balasore government hospital has been virtually left orphaned. The mother died minutes after giving birth to them and two days later the father abandoned them.
Last Monday, Ranju Behera gave birth to a boy and a girl at the Balasore district hospital, 210 km from here. After a few minutes, 25-year-old Ranju, who was unconscious, fell from the table in the labour room and died.
The death sparked off protests against hospital’s negligence. The district administration granted a compensation of Rs 10,000 to Ranju’s husband Katia Behera. He got the money on Wednesday and hasn’t been seen since.
“The father has abandoned the infants. He was very much there while leading the agitation to get compensation. But after the money was given, he hasn’t been seen… We’re planning to shift the infants to a care home, but taking care of them will pose problems,” Balasore district collector Alekh Chandra Padhiary told HT.
The infants are underweight — the boy weighs 1.9 kg, the girl only 1.7 kg, the doctors said.
District officials said they were trying to trace Katia. A team has been sent to Gudipada village, on the outskirts of Balasore, where the couple lived.
